Cafe Luna
We like to think of our quaint towns in New Jersey as something special. We try to shop and eat locally and often end up running into friends and neighbors. It's the kind of thing we see in old movies. A bit of Americana taken from old Parisian cafes and Italian trattorias. We've found a bit of old Europe in Millburn at Cafe Luna. There is a lot of energy in this small cafe packed with neighbors and friends.
The owners are a husband and wife team. Sharon is from Israel and her husband Franco is from Italy (he taught her to speak English with an Italian accent!) Their varied backgrounds are reflected on the menu. I actually went twice in one week. The first time I had the frittata special with eggplant, tomatoes and fontina cheese. Really so light and fluffy! My friend had a panini with ham, cheese and tomato. We both raved.
The second time I went I had the special salad with shrimp, avocado, and greens in a light lemon dressing. It was a perfect treat for a hot summer day.
Their menu includes salads, carpaccio, sandwiches made with panini or focaccia bread, bourekas (the Israeli contribution to the menu) filled with potato or cheese. Soups are made daily. Both days I went there was gazpacho or hot carrot soup (all vegetable based).
